    Town by town

Each town's 2026 result above its 2022 result.

    The 2022 race

This is a rematch. On November 8, 2022, John Lavoie (Democrat) beat Zach Weight (Republican) 10,316 to 8,512, 54.7% to 45.1%, carrying 10 of 15 towns. This year Lavoie is running as an independent and Weight has both the Democratic and Republican nominations.

How races and towns are called
    • Projected: the trailing candidate would need at least 70% of the votes still out, and at least 3 towns are in. In 2022 neither candidate topped 68% in any town.
    • Wins: every town is in and the margin is at least 2 points. Under 2 points it stays too close to call.
    • Votes still out are estimated from each unreported town's 2022 vote, scaled by turnout so far, plus a 15% cushion.
    • A town is won once it's fully in, unless the margin is under 2 points (close). Georgia and the two St. Albans report in two parts. They're called early only if the missing part can't overturn the lead.
    • All results are unofficial until certified by the Secretary of State.

      What it all means

      The race call

      Too early to call
Some towns are in, but the trailing candidate would need less than 55% of the votes still out to catch up. Very possible either way.
      Leads
Ahead in the votes counted so far. The trailing candidate would need 55–70% of the votes still out to catch up: unlikely, but not ruled out.
      Projected
At least 3 towns are in, and the trailing candidate would need 70% or more of the votes still out. In 2022 neither candidate won more than 68% in any Franklin County town, so we consider the race effectively decided. It's still an estimate until every town reports.
      Winner
Every town has reported and the margin is at least 2 points. Results stay unofficial until the Secretary of State certifies them.
      Too close to call
Every town has reported, but the margin is under 2 points, close enough that a recount could matter. We don't call it.
      Declared winner
The Secretary of State has marked the results official and named a winner.
